Chocolate Chip Cookie Showdown Part One
Chocolate Chip Cookies to me are very homey.
Is it pure nostalgia? Or is it really that Nestle's cookie recipe, specifically found on the chocolate chip packaging, is the best recipe for them around?
Well after some very quick research, i.e. Wikipedia, to get some background insight on Chocolate Chip Cookies, I learned that the original recipe was created around 1938 and used Nestle brand chocolate(1). And not only that, but the women who invented the cookie, Ruth Graves Wakefield and Sue Brides, even gave their recipe to Nestle in exchange for a supply of chocolate (1).
This really was interesting to learn and made me want to try the original recipe for the cookies that the article had listed. How does it compare to the Nestle recipe I love so much?
So here is what I am going to do:
So to get an idea of this, I am going to bake both the original 1930's recipe and the modern recipe and conduct a blind taste test with some people. Then to continue the Chocolate Chip Cookie Showdown, I will take whichever recipe is picked and pit it against an 'award winning' recipe, then likely a store bought cookie mix.
But in this first round, we will see which I like more and how the recipes compare, as well as what friends think. My guess is that people will choose the modern Nestle Recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies as their favorite because it is likely the most familiar recipe to people.
