An Introduction to the top 500:

I enjoy a lot of different kinds of music. Old to new, rock to pop, English to Japanese, I like the majority of what I have heard. Like a lot of people, it can be really hard to narrow down what would be my favorite artist and even harder to pick a song. When I’m with my love, we listen mostly to grungy-90s sounding music when we’re out driving. When I worked at the auto-part store, it was mostly 60s, 70s, 80s classic rock. With my Mom, we listen a lot to Hozier, Kaleo, Billie Eilish, and the Lumineers’ music that has a more indie or alternative sound. And when I work out I love to listen to 80s pop music. I also have a small cassette tape collection and a couple vinyl records that have no theme, I have just bought whatever the thrift shop has had leading to a variety to pick from.

What I like varies greatly and so I have always thought it would be impossible for me to rate my personal tastes in music without having to analyze it deeply to determine its technical worth. Which is why I found it interesting when I learned that the Rolling Stone conducted two polls with panels of those in the music industry (artists, producers, journalists) to create a list of the top 500 albums of all time.

This list is featured on the Rolling Stone website and gives a little information on the artist or group behind it. It also gives information on where to listen to each album. So I thought it would be fun to listen to all 500 and give my thoughts on them.

I think the big three questions that I’ll work on for each are:

  1. Did I like/could I recommend the Album overall?

  2. Is there a standout track?

  3. Would I seek out more from the artist?

And I think a larger question that I’ll be working on as I go through is “Do I have a favorite genre of music?”.

Although this might depend on if the people pulled generally picked mostly the same genres or if the list is really diverse. But either way I think it will be fun to listen through and hear all the albums on the list.

So if you would like to join me on this music venture please follow my blog and check in the 500 album tag/label to see all my posts on them. To see the Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” list click Here.

Thank you for reading and I can’t wait to read your comments as we listen through the Albums together!
